Setting Things Straight with My Own Sigma 30mm 1.4 Review

January 29th, 2012

I feel like I have to do a Sigma 30mm 1.4 review since there are so many other opinions online that state that this is a bad lens. Personally, I do not feel that this lens is bad but instead rather misunderstood. The people that are disappointed with this lens are usually the ones that wanted to use it like they would any other prime lens which is not really its specialty. The f/1.4 should be your first clue that this is the type of lens that you take out when you are in darker environments and want to get great shots without shooting with your flash. Street photographers that take a lot of night time scenes will have a ball with this lens for example. In some situations it is forbidden or frowned upon to use a flash which is where this lens once again comes in very handy.

The Amazing Panasonic 20mm F1.7

January 16th, 2012

The features of the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 are very outstanding. Due to its great features, this Panasonic lens takes very clear/high standard pictures. You are only required to use either the Olympus Micro Four Thirds or the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras in order to take a sharp and clear picture with this lens. This lens has superb distortion control, very good chromatic aberration control, great centre sharpness at every aperture, good sharpness on the borders (except at f/1.7), fabulous build quality and excellent autofocus performance (fast and also accurate). Vignetting control is very discouraging on this lens; not well controlled at all apertures.

In terms of image stabilization on the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, it is superb. In the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera, the installation of image stabilization is done on the lenses, not on the sensor. While Olympus installs it on the sensors. The other drawback on this Panasonic lens is its high price.
